WEEK 49, 2018

Tea market report 3 – 7 December 2018

In Kenya, there were 167k packages on offer which met fair general demand, with about 85% finding immediate buyers. Two more auctions follow before the record year ends, both swinging heavy weight at 168k in week 50 and 171k in week 51. A 5% devaluation of the Pakistan Rupee was the talk of the week and led to some anxiety. However, the offerings and the levels tempted the buyers to have a steady interest at lower levels. In the Blantyre auction there were 1,420 packages on offer, all of which came from only two gardens, Sayama and Mateco.
